Fest Anča

International Animation Festival

Since 2008, the International animation festival Fest Anča has been drawing young audiences to Žilina, an industrial city in the north-west of Slovakia. Devoted to exhibition and promotion of animated film, it is the largest event of its kind in Slovakia with growing prestige abroad. Fest Anča's programming combines current trends in animation in its competition sections with retrospectives of renowned authors of European and world animation film. Fest Anča is also an important forum for the Slovak animation industry providing space for screenings, debates with the audience and confrontation at an international level.
The International animation festival Fest Anča was established in 2008. Since the very beginning, the event has been connected with the cultural centre Stanica Žilina-Záriečie and is carried out during the extended weekend after the summer solstice. The festival, tagged as hot and cool at the same time, does not deploy red carpets. However the festival's archives are full of interesting international guests.

Cautiously selected short animated films from all around the world compete for the precious trophies: Anča Award, Anča Music Video Award, Anča Student Award, Anča Kids'Award, Anča D Award. The programme is also devoted to lectures, workshops, discussions with film directors, concerts and exhibitions.

This multimedia festival, since its start has been way ahead of just showing films; it brings inspiration from other media, such as the visual arts, VJ-ing, computer games, puppet theatre, internet applications, mapping, new media etc.

Fest Anča is partner with the European organisation Cartoon in organising the Cartoon East Award. Fest Anča is member of the eastern European animation festivals' coalition Cartoon East.
